Scoliosis Surgery

About to have Scoliosis Surgery? Heres how it went for me.
Hi, my name is Elizabeth and about four years ago I had Scoliosis Surgery(I was in seventh grade at the time). I wore a brace for a long time but that didn't seem to help very much. When I found out that I was going to need surgery, I was devastated-as I am sure those of you about to have the surgery are right now. I remember crying and wondering why I was going to have to go through this. The surgery was going to be in a couple of months and i definitely needed all of the time I could have to be prepared, well mentally prepared for me. The days flew by as I just waited and counted down, I'm not going to lie, i was terrified. I had never had any type of serious surgery in my life, besides having my tonsils taken out. Even that wasn't so bad, I got the ice cream they promised me. The morning of the surgery, I remember having to be at the hospital at 6 in the morning. The doctors gave me numbing cream to put on the backs of my hands before I left so I would not feel the I.V. When I got to the hospital my whole family was there waiting for me. It felt so good to see them all there knowing they would be there for me through it all. I remember lying down on the bed in that backless dress that they always make you wear (ask for two, it's much more comfortable). They put the I.V.'s in, luckily I didn't feel them because of the numbing medicine they gave me, and then one more in my arm which wasn't that bad. See I am terrified of needles so I have some sort of ritual where I don't feel the needle if I don't look at it. I just squeeze my eyes closed really tight and bite my tongue, not too hard though, and hold someones hand. Nine times out of ten they're done before I can close my eyes. After the I.V's they let me say goodbye to my mother before I went into that long and delicate surgery. A doctor put the laughing gas mask over my face and by the time I counted to eight I was out.
